Morocco: An Emerging IT Outstaffing Hub in North Africa
Morocco, situated in North Africa, has recently garnered attention as a promising destination for IT outsourcing. According to the Global Services Location Index (GSLI), the country now ranks 28th out of 78 on the list of the world's top outsourcing destinations.
What makes this achievement even more noteworthy is that Morocco is the second-best outsourcing destination in Africa and the fourth in the Middle East and Africa (MENA) region.
A Leap Forward
Between 2021 and 2023, Morocco made an impressive leap of 12 positions in the rankings, evidence of rapid developments in the country concerning financial attractiveness, labor skills, business environment, and digital resonance. This ascent underscores the growing interest in Morocco as a hub for tech-related commercial activities.
Multilingual Workforce and Cost Competitiveness
One of Morocco's strengths is cost efficiency combined with a multilingual workforce fluent in English, French, and Spanish. This combination of factors has strengthened the country's vision to provide a welcoming environment for tech-related business operations.
Digital Upskilling and Government Investments
The GSLI report also highlights Morocco's focus on digital upskilling, contributing to the country's improved prospects. Additionally, the Moroccan government has announced plans to invest millions of dollars in the outstaffing sector, aiming to generate approximately 5,000 new jobs by the end of 2026.
International Recognition and Innovation
The ranking positions Morocco as one of the seven global innovation hubs, an impressive feat illustrating how the country has competitive advantages over other international destinations. Morocco even ranks higher than countries like South Korea and Canada.
Concrete Steps Forward
In October 2022, the Moroccan government signed an agreement to invest MAD 65 million ($5 million) in the outstaffing sector, with the goal of creating 5,000 new jobs by 2026 in cities such as Tangier, Fes, Rabat, Casablanca, and Agadir. This initiative provides a unique opportunity for companies to expand their operations into Morocco.
Excellent Infrastructure and Growth
With the best IT infrastructure in North Africa and an outstaffing sector responsible for over 120,000 jobs and an annual export revenue of $1.4 billion, Morocco is poised to become a key player in the global IT outstaffing market.
